An expert on Public Administration

Hi guys! I hope you are very well! On this weeks post I'm going to talk about a very important person in the history of the USA and for the history of Public Administration systems: Henry Kissinger, he was the Secretary of State and National Security Advisor under the Nixon and Ford's administrations.

Of Jewish ascendancy, Nixon was born on May 27th, 1923 in the state of Bavaria, Germany; In 1938, his family escaped away from the Nazis, arriving at New York on September 5th. He started studying accounting at the City College after high school.

In 1943, Kissinger was recruited by the US Army, fighting in Europe under the 84th Division. It was during the occupation of Germany that Kissinger began his experience as an administrator, organizing the civil structure of the towns occupied by his division.
After the war, Kissinger restarted his political science studies at the famous Harvard University, graduating in 1950.

Kissinger, Zhou Enlai and Mao, 1970.

An important Republican Party member, respected for his knowledge, Richard Nixon made him Secretary of State after winning the elections in 1968.
A proponent of Realpolitik (international politics based on economical and practical circumstances instead of Ideological contents), Kissinger was the main pusher of the 1973 Paris Agreement that put an end to US occupation of Vietnam, as well as the 1971 agreement that improved the relationship between USA and China. Also, he pursued a detente politic toward the USSR, evading major conflicts with the Brezhnev government. However, his anti-communism and Realpolitik were controversial, especially since he advocated the reinforcement of the relations with Pakistan (even as the Pakistan government ordered the massacre of tens of thousands Bangladeshis during the 1971 War of Independence), was the main instigator of the CIA involvement in Chile that culminated in the 1973 Coup that deposed (and killed) Salvador Allende, supported some of the worst dictatorships in the history of the 20th century (from Suharto in Indonesia to Somoza in Nicaragua, Stroessner in Paraguay and off course Pinochet in Chile), and didn’t care about the structure of the Westernized governments the US Armed Forces left behind in Indochina: Only 2 years after the Paris Agreement, South Vietnam was invaded and ceased to exist, the communist Pathet Lao deposed the monarchy in Laos, and Cambodia fell to the Khmer Rouge, beginning the horrendous Cambodian Genocide that killed 3 million people in only 2 years.

Kissinger is important to Public Administration because he was the responsable behind the end of the US Occupation of Vietnam and the main investigator of the CIA intervention in Latin America, Africa & Asia, and also he contributed to the re-establishment of relations between USA and China.

My favorite music!

Hi guys! I hope all of you are fine! Today I'm going to talk about my favorite music, but i have a little problem, i have more than one favorite type of music!
Let's begin with my first favorite: Britney Spears. She was my first favorite singer and I like her so much. I went to her concert in 2011 and it was a great experience, although it was so crowded I could barely enjoyed it. However, until this day I still love her, she is the most beautiful woman in the world, and my favorite song is "Lucky".

Then it's Bruno Mars. Oh god how lovely he is! He is a versatile performer, making such fabulous pop anthems like "The lazy song" and powerfull ballads like "When I was your man", one of my favorites of all, a romantic song that talk about an unrequited love. He has so much style!
An extract of this song that i love is the final part when he say:
"I hope he buys you flowers, I hope he holds your hand, Give you all his hours when he has the chance, take you to every party 'cause I remember how much you love to dance. Do all the things I should have done when I was your man."

Then, there's a chilean singer that captivated me about 5 years ago and it's still deeply in my heart: the beautiful songs of Manuel García made me cry sometimes because he represents an important part of my life, when i was in love of my real first love. It was some reasons why i love him so much.

From then on, I have so many favorite singer and songwriters! The black eyed peas, Rihanna, Beyonce, Backstreet boys, incubus, Keane, La combo tortuga and Guachupé.

And finally if i had to choose only one, i will choose Coldplay, my favorite brit band of all times. One of the happiest moment of my life was when i went to the concert this year with my mom, sisters and my boyfriend. It could be for the beautiful of the musicians (specially Guy Berryman <3) or the beauty of their sad and fragile songs, maybe. But it's inevitable, I love them!
If i want to talk about my favoritesong of all times it's called "Green eyes" from Coldplay's second album A Rush of Blood to the Head. One of several songs dedicated to Gwyneth Paltrow, then the love of his life, it's a beautiful song and definitely one of the best Coldplay songs in my opinion. Also he represents an important time of my life, my ex boyfriend gave me in an important time of our relationship and i remember this song like a symbol of our love.
If you want listen this beautiful song, i attached the song!

Have a nice day dear friends <3!

My favorite picture! *-*

Hi guys! I hope you liked last week's post! Today I'm going to talk about my favorite picture!

This photo has an important and emotional story attached to it: As you have already known, I am from Ecuador but I live in Chile since 1999, and during a brief time before moving to Chile, my father was all by himself in Santiago. It was very hard because he was studying and working to pay his studies in the Universidad de Santiago de Chile and also he sent money to my mom for all expenses that involve have three daughters. That was very sad for my mom, my sisters and me! :’c.

During the time that I was far away of my dad, with my mom record in a cassette all our stories, when I start to singing or my sisters count what they do in the school, it was so fun because in the record heard when my sisters fight. Also we sent a lot of pictures about my child development, recording our daily lives and telling how much we loved him. It is one of these pictures, it was taken in 1998 for my mom, and I’m making a “good angel” face and it represents an important part of my family’s story <3. I was so cute *-* <3. What do you think?

Thanks for reading my blog dear friends! See you next week! <3

Environmental Policies !

Hi guys! Today I'm going to talk about environmental policies in Chile and around the world.

Modern environmental policies began in the 1960’s. The breakthrough was generated by Rachel Carson’s book Silent Spring, published in 1962 and dealing with the negative effect that the DDT (a pesticide) had on the ecosystems and life quality in the USA. The book had a major impact on the perception people and the government had on the caring of the environment, and was a best seller.

Then, in December 1970, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), created by the Nixon administration, began its functions. Its objective was to protect “human health and the environment by writing and enforcing regulations based on laws passed by Congress”. It has created air pollution regulation laws, water control laws, endangered species protection acts and many other policies oriented towards protecting the wilderness and life quality of the American people.

In Chile, during the Military Dictatorship, all the previous environmental laws were abolished, and the exportation culture of eucalyptus and pines was favored, destroying vast tracts of native forest and polluting the environment. Then, after the return to democracy in 1990, the Comisión Nacional del Medio Ambiente (CONAMA) was created with the objective of overseeing the studying and evaluation of all the necessary measures to protect and conserve the national environment.

Between 1990 and 2010, the Fishing Law (Ley de Pesca) and Forestal Law (Ley Forestal) were created to regulate the explotation and marketing of those national resources. In 2010, by a presidential decree, the Ministry of Environment (Ministerio de Medio Ambiente) was created, replacing the CONAMA.

Today, the MMA is busy modernizing the national environmental policies and sending public messages about the dangers of global warming and pollution. However, in my opinion, there’s a lack of information and public participation, and there’s still a lot to do in the matter.

I hope all of you enjoyed my post! See you soon!
